New species in 2026: Neosilurus manjandi
𝑁𝑒𝑜𝑠𝑖𝑙𝑢𝑟𝑢𝑠 𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑗𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑖, a new species of freshwater eeltail catfish, is described from the sandstone upland streams and gorges in the Pentecost and Drysdale river catchments, Kimberley, Western Australia. Preliminary genetic data for Kimberley freshwater plotosids reveal the presence of several other cryptic lineages that warrant further genetic and taxonomic assessments. Maintaining refuge pools is a likely key conservation consideration for the new species in the face of any future catchment modification and climate change.

New species in 2026: Glyptothorax pulcher
𝐺𝑙𝑦𝑝𝑡𝑜𝑡ℎ𝑜𝑟𝑎𝑥 𝑝𝑢𝑙𝑐ℎ𝑒𝑟, a new species of sisorid catfish, is described from the upper Pearl River of Yunnan and Guangxi, southwest China. In addition, the authors show that phylogenetic evidence suggests that 𝐺. 𝑧ℎ𝑢𝑗𝑖𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑒𝑛𝑠𝑖𝑠 is not a valid species but rather a junior synonym of 𝐺. 𝑝𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑜𝑧𝑜𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑖𝑛 in this study.
